First day of work
With the warehouse tenancy signed, two employees hired and our first shipment on its way, it was time to start working!
On Saturday we had our first full day together as the Safety Screens team. And like all great businesses it started with a vision and a first day. For us, that first day began with assembling chairs and tables! Not a glamorous start but was in the same vain as Steve Jobs starting out in his garage (not exactly but you get my point).
After setting up a work area it was down to some good old fashion business planning. Our main focus was to design the layout of the warehouse to ensure an efficient work flow. One of our concerns is the movement and storage of the larger raw materials such as the aluminium which is over 5 meters long. After a couple of modifications we developed a layout diagram and workflow process.
It’s not perfect and is based on a few assumptions that could prove to be wrong, but it’s a start.
The next order of business was to develop our work priorities and set tasks and responsibilities for the next two weeks. Once these were developed it was back to the hardware store (again) to pick up some (more) supplies.
